Inaugural WBC Aussie Pairs Centenary Event
As part of our 100 years WBC celebrations we wanted to hold a new bowling event this season. Following a very kind and generous centenary donation to the club from Dean and Sarah Stockwell (who live in Australia) the question of how to appropriately spend this money and what the new competition should be came in a lightbulb moment of 'killing two birds with one stone' i.e. an AUSSIE PAIRS knockout event.
On Saturday August 1st a fixed date was set aside where 18 pairs played 12-end Aussie Pairs knockout matches to ultimately get to 4 semi finalists - who will then compete to then play in the inaugural WBC Aussie Pairs Final as part of Finals Weekend on 12th/13th September. It took some of us more time than others to get used to the format of walking to the other end of the rink twice each end i.e. "bowl 2, switch ends, bowl 4, switch ends, bowl 2 . . . . then repeat 11 more times !!
After the bowling
Stuart & Anja Tyler, with some family help, kindly did a BBQ for over 50 of us which was much appreciated and enjoyed along with a few libations.
It is hoped this Aussie Pairs day becomes a regular part of our annual WBC calendar in future years . . . .
